What we teach
-
We offer both Salsa On1 and Salsa On2 classes at different levels. Our regular levelled classes (Levels 1-4) include a mixture of partnerwork and shines (with a heavier mix of partnerwork). All of our classes introduce students to the core concepts they will encounter on the dancefloor and a strong technical base to execute them safely and confidently. We also explore Salsa musical interpretation to allow students to appreciate the many influences and layers of Salsa music.
We also offer a number of speciality Salsa drop-ins and 8-week courses:
Salsa On2 Shines: Salsa On2 Shines with a heavy influence on mambo, pachanga, cha cha
Salsa On2 with AfroCuban influence: AfroCuban fusion within Salsa On2 shines, including Rumba Guaguanco, Rumba columbia, and Orishas.
Salsa Ladies Technique and Styling: Ladies styling techniques for shines and partnerwork, including body movement, arm styling, turn technique, head movement, and musical interpretation
-
We offer different levels of Bachata which focus on both partnerwork and footwork instruction (with a heavier mix of partnerwork). Our focus is introducing students to core technique for all types of Bachata (Traditional, Modern, and Sensual), with a heavier lean towards Traditional and Modern bachata. We also explore Bachata musical interpretation to allow students to truly feel the music on the dancefloor.
-
We offer an in-depth AfroCuban series through our guest instructor, Sarita Leyva. Sarita is a graduate of Escuelas Nacionales de Arte (one of the top dance schools in Cuba), a former professor of Cuban Traditional dance at York University, and is considered the Godmother of Traditional Cuban dance in Toronto. Each 8-week series focuses on a distinct AfroCuban folkloric dance, such as an Orisha (e.g., Eleggua, Yemaya, Oggun), Rumba, or other AfroCuban dance (e.g., Palo Cango). Expect to dive into the cultural understanding, technique, musical interpretation, and energy these courses.
-
For our most dedicated students looking to challenge themselves, we offer several performance teams throughout the year. Look out for announcements for auditions for the next performance team. Offered in approximately 6 month commitments, our team members will learn a brand new choreography and train the technique, musicality, and showmanship required to shine on stage.
